We frequently try to take a trip to the beach in different areas whenever we can and this image is one I captured when we were having the after effects of a tropical storm that brushed our coast at Ocean Isle Beach. These two surfers had been our surfing in the high waves, some had gotten up to 10 feet or higher at times during the storm. There were many surfer's at the beach that day as the storm passed through. This image was taken atop a tall sand dune, looking down at them as they walked from the ocean. Surfing is a surface water sport in which the wave rider, referred to as a surfer, rides on the forward or deep face of a moving wave, which is usually carrying the surfer towards the shore. Waves suitable for surfing are primarily found in the ocean, but can also be found in lakes or in rivers in the form of a standing wave or tidal bore. However, surfers can also utilize artificial waves such as those from boat wakes and the waves created in artificial wave pools. This image I decided to paint digitally. I have used textures and different paint brushes, primarily oil and watercolor to paint this image with some palette knife strokes as well.
