Description
I heard about a large field of Zinnias on the way north to Virginia from North Carolina, and headed up that way to find that field. It was an amazing field of flowers along the highway. I have not seen so many colors, shapes and sizes of zinnia flowers and this one I saw was taller than most and decided to capture the beauty of the sunlight on it's petals from this angle toward the sky. The true color has not been altered, is the way I photographed it, but I did add frame to make it pop more.
I have heard it is not hard to grow zinnias. From seeing this field, I could see they were thriving. Zinnias are annuals, shrubs, and sub-shrubs native to North America with one species extending to South America. The flowers have a range of appearances, from a single row of petals, to a dome shape, with the colors white, chartreuse, yellow, orange, red, purple, and lilac.
