This fish was a capture years ago at the North Carolina Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores on Bogue Banks. It is a tropical fish and was told was either a discus or angelfish as they are similar in many ways. I have taken the image and digitally painted the image in an abstract way by first sketching in the areas of color, base coating and the digitally painting the fish and water for a more colorful presentation. I used Coral, Topaz and or Photoshop to finalize the artwork. Both species come from the same area and live in a similar environment. Angelfish and discus are good candidates for blackwater aquariums. However, whether they can live together in an aquarium depends on several things and which aquarist you listen to. Angelfish and discus are both cichlids. Angelfish are usually peaceful, but they can be aggressive when feeding and breeding. Discus fish are docile and may be deprived of food by angelfish. You can put them together but make sure the discus fish is eating.
