Description
While visiting Emerald Isle on Bogue Banks, NC, we had Tropical Storm Alberto brush the coast and then Tropical Storm Beryl do the same the week we were there. This photo won first place for NYTimes About.com Photography National Photography Month of May Contest for Photo of the Year 2012. I was standing in an under toe from the storms rip current praying I would not loose my footing with my camera when I took this photo. I named the photo "Conquering The Storm" as I made it out of the ocean. We all have storms in life and some are rougher than others, but with faith in God, He brings us through them and eventually the sun comes back out. To my Mother In Law who was in the hospital when we were there and I shot this and since has passed on, for my Dad in heaven, to my Mom who went to Heaven recently, I dedicate this image. Water is healing and the ocean has always been a special place to me.

Sandi this is a WONDERful image for so many reasons. I first was drawn to it because I LOVE clouds!! This is a doozy!! Then I read your description and loved it even more!!! My deepest condolences for the loss of both of your parents and mother-In-Law. I lost my mother two years ago and Jerry his Dad. I love to see a story in photography and to hear one as well. Love the title of the image and all its meaning. So true for most of us. Also congratulations on your 2012 achievement with this image. Makes quivering in the undertow worth it, you gained so much. 💕And favorite
