Description
During a beach trip along our coast, we took many drives around the area, and driving around where North Carolina and South Carolina border meets, you can see a lot of old plantations and beautiful scenery. This image is a walkway to an old deserted plantation, and many of them have similar paths, or trails with the oaks growing over them. I used acrylic and oil brushes to digitally paint this image. An oak is a tree or shrub in the genus Quercus (/ˈkwɜːrkəs/;[1] Latin "oak tree") of the beech family, Fagaceae. There are approximately 500 extant species of oaks.[2] The common name "oak" also appears in the names of species in related genera, notably Lithocarpus (stone oaks), as well as in those of unrelated species such as Grevillea robusta (silky oaks) and the Casuarinaceae (she-oaks). The genus Quercus is native to the Northern Hemisphere, and includes deciduous and evergreen species extending from cool temperate to tropical latitudes in the Americas, with approximately 90 occurring in the United States. The Oak tree is one of the most loved trees in the world, and with good reason. It's a symbol of strength, morale, resistance and knowledge. As a keystone species—a species that plays a critical role in its ecosystem—oaks keep forests healthy by maintaining a richer mix of plants, insects, birds and other animals wherever they grow. And as a source of food and habitat, they're especially important for wildlife. Enter the oak tree. Oak trees in Scripture signify the Lord's righteousness, beginning with Abram's choosing to believe God, move to the land God promised him, and build an altar upon arriving there, at the “Oak of Moreh.” oak / ōk/ • n. (also oak tree) a tree (genus Quercus) of the beech family that bears acorns as fruit, and typically has lobed deciduous leaves. Oaks are common in many north temperate forests and are an important source of hard and durable wood used chiefly in construction, furniture, and (formerly) shipbuilding.
