Description
We have had many bluebird families over the years and have two nesting bluebird boxes in our back yard, which is mostly wooded. Here is one of then flying to one of our nesting boxes. I digitally painted this image with a watercolor brush and acrylic brushes and some detail brushes to soften the trees, limbs and leaves of the different trees behind him. This is the male eastern bluebird. The eastern bluebird is a small North American migratory thrush found in open woodlands, farmlands, and orchards. The bright-blue breeding plumage of the male, easily observed on a wire or open perch, makes this species a favorite of birders. Eastern Bluebirds eat mostly insects, wild fruit and berries. Occasionally, Eastern Bluebirds have also been observed capturing and eating larger prey items such as shrews, salamanders, snakes, lizards and tree frogs.
