While visiting the marshlands of Ocean Isle Beach, we found this Heron who flew in from her habitat at certain times of the day and I had the opportunity to see her and capture this image. These birds are majestic in flight for their size and the feathers are truly beautiful and their markings.
Great Blue Herons appear blue-gray from a distance, with a wide black stripe over the eye. In flight, the upper side of the wing is two-toned: pale on the forewing and darker on the flight feathers.
Hunting Great Blue Herons wade slowly or stand statue-like, stalking fish and other prey in shallow water or open fields. Watch for the lightning-fast thrust of the neck and head as they stab with their strong bills. Their very slow wingbeats, tucked-in neck and trailing legs create an unmistakable image in flight.

Robert, they are skittish, she was talking to me and me to her and I don't know why, unless she is used to getting treats from humans somewhere. I just kept shooting. Sometimes the unusual happens :)
