During a drive toward the mountains, we came upon this sunflower field. There were actually three separate fields that were huge. It looked like these were being grown for their seeds. American natives, sunflowers are grow for beauty as well as harvested for seed. n annual plant, sunflowers have big, daisy like flower faces of bright yellow petals (and occasionally red) and brown centers that ripen into heavy heads filled with seeds. Sunflowers grow best in locations with direct sun (6 to 8 hours per day); they prefer long, hot summers to flower well. Need a bird seeder? Save dry heads and set them out in winter. Textures were used with this image to enhance it's beauty.
