Description
Calabash is a small fishing town on the very southern tip of North Carolina near the border of South Carolina. It is known for it's "Calabash-Style" seafood restaurants and it fishing fleet and tours. After talking to one of the captains of a fishing boat, he assured me this anchor was found on a sunken ship that was either a pirates ship or a war ship during the revolutionary war. North Carolina is known for it's many sunken ships off of her shores and many are still being found today. I liked this anchor and the layout of the large rusted chains brought up with her. I used texture and some artwork with this image to bring out it's rustic look even more.
An anchor is a device normally made of metal, that is used to connect a vessel to the bed of a body of water to prevent the craft from drifting due to wind or current. The word derives from Latin ancora, which itself comes from the Greek ἄγκυρα (ankura).
Anchors can either be temporary or permanent. A permanent anchor is used in the creation of a mooring, and is rarely moved; a specialist service is normally needed to move or maintain it. Vessels carry one or more temporary anchors, which may be of different designs and weights.

Outstanding "steel life" composition, Sandi! I enjoy everything nautical related. I also like your poetic title and informative description. Calabash sounds like a great place to wander and dine. L&F

Sandi, what a unique capture. You are blessed with a talent to recognize photo opportunities that many would not see. A Vote.
