Description
This ornamental decorative Kale plant is one we plant every year in the Fall. It is hearty all through the winter and will flower in the spring. This year we got some cold rain right after planting that made the water drops stand up on the plant, almost icy in nature. I was able to photography them on the plant before it warmed up. I enjoy these plants for their intricate design and color contrast. They have an almost abstract look about them. Ornamental kale is a hybrid that is used as a garden specimen or as an indoor seasonal houseplant. Its edible leaves are favored as a colorful food garnishment. A biennial, the plant is normally discarded after one year of growth before it begins to produce seeds and becomes leggy.
.....
The growth of kale is profoundly affected by temperature. The nighttime temperature must drop to below 60 degrees Fahrenheit to encourage kale to produce its color. The temperature drop must occur for around four weeks for the kale to complete its growth and transformation.

I love ornamental kale too! It's a batch of color during an otherwise grey, bleak time in the garden. I've got some in my portfolio too:) The water droplets on this specimen make your capture magical Sandi! V/ Pamela
