Description
During a drive in the country, we passed this old barn and it's occupants, these two horses, grazing in the pasture out front. This photo was taken last month as the trees were budding for spring. It shows the transition from winter to spring as the horses also are losing their winter coat. We stopped to visit and found very old feeding troughs inside the stalls with carved designs on them. Stairs took us up to the hayloft which was huge and over flowing with fresh hay. You could smell spring in the air. Textures have been added to this image. One by Kim Klassen and one is mine.

Barns are a farm building used for sheltering animals, their feed and other supplies, farm machinery, and farm products. Barns are named according to their purposes (e.g. hog barns, dairy barns, tobacco barns and tractor barns). The principle type in the U.S. is the general-purpose barn, used for housing livestock and for storing hay and grain. Most North American and European farms have one or more barns. They usually consist of two stories, though one-story barns gained in popularity in the late 20th century.

A very charming image Sandi. We had barns like that over 75 years ago and my dad kept them in beautiful condition. It is sad that they are mostly in the past! V/F

What a lovely farm scenic, Sandi. A great old barn! Those beautiful horses seem most content in their green pasture! f/l

What an evocative image, especially nostalgic for me because the old sorrels look like my 32-year-old once-in-a-lifetime soulmate that I had to put down last spring. A beautiful and outstanding photo! fav
